Course Overview

The ACOMS Lifestyle Series was created to further our two-fold mission: to enhance surgical excellence through education and promote fellowship amongst oral and maxillofacial surgeons. This intimate course will afford 20 participants with the opportunity to meet other OMS who share their passion for the outdoors. For three days, participants will enjoy four hours of educational lectures and approximately six hours of guided float-fishing on the Yellowstone River, only 30 miles from America’s first national park.

Learning Objectives

  • Identify a number of applications where Virtual Surgical Planning can be applied

  • Discuss how Virtual Surgical Planning could be applied in at least one aspect of their current practice

  • Identify speech issues and how they are related to the oral and maxillofacial structures

  • Review treatment options for various speech issues

  • Identify the barriers of current resident training

  • Discuss a new paradigm of resident training, readiness, and evaluation

  • Illustrate the psychobiology of burnout, stress, and wellness in relationship to performance

  • Identify, review, and consider management options of pre-operative, intra-operative, and post-operative orthognathic surgery complications

  • Discuss the etiopathogenesis of HPV associated oropharyngeal cancer

  • Describe the differences between HPV+ and HPV- oropharyngeal cancer

  • Identify the role of surgery in HPV+ cancer of the oropharynx

  • Discuss the concept of de-escalation therapy in head and neck cancer

  • Recognize what clinical situations constitute emergencies in office anesthesia

  • Review how to successfully treat multiple office anesthesia emergencies


Continuing Medical Education (CME)

This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the accreditation requirements and policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) through the joint providership of PeerPoint Medical Education Institute and the American College of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons.
