8th Annual Residents Meeting

November 2 - 3, 2019

A. Webb Roberts Hospital

3500 Gaston Ave
Dallas, TX 75246

The deadline to submit a case report is Monday, September 30, 2019.

Case reports are less formal than a scientific abstract. They are your opportunity to share the symptoms, evaluation, and treatment of an interesting or fun case that you have encountered during your training. These reports are a great opportunity for you to gain public speaking experience among peers in a low-pressure environment. Case reports will not be published in OOOO journal, but outstanding case report presenters will be eligible to win travel awards to attend the 1st ALACIBU & ACOMS International Meeting at the Diplomat Beach Resort in Florida from June 14-17, 2020.

Submission is open to all OMS residents who are registered to attend this meeting. Your presentation must be entered via the web form at the bottom of this page. Your Program Director or another faculty member from your institution should be listed as a corresponding author and must have signed-off prior to submission.

PRESENTATION GUIDELINES

Selected case reports will be allotted ten minutes: eight minutes should be dedicated to lecture and two minutes for questions and answers. Typically, presenters create a PowerPoint to accompany their presentation. The PowerPoint may contain additional graphics or other visuals related to the case report. Oral presentations will take place on both November 2 and 3. Selected presenters will be notified of their time slots once all submissions have been reviewed.

The main purpose of the case report is to review why decisions were made and extract the lesson from the case. Reports from literature are often cited that either directly support or contradict the findings of the case. Be wary of boasting that your case is the "first" to describe a particular phenomenon, since even the most thorough searches often fail to reveal all instances of similar cases. The best case reports are those that make a small number of teaching points (even just one) in clear and succinct language.
