Obstructive Sleep Apnea Hands-on Course

March 24-25, 2018

Miami, FL

Course Overview

Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is one of the most prevalent sleep disorders, affecting approximately to 3% to 7% of men and 2% to 5% of women in the United States. Like most sleep disorders, OSA is unrecognized, underdiagnosed and undertreated. Oral and maxillofacial surgeons can play a critical role in improving the quality of life of their patients by diagnosing and managing this condition.

Our experienced faculty will focus on the latest surgical and non-surgical techniques for the management of OSA. Lecture topics will include pathophysiology and diagnosis, radiologic and other diagnostic evaluations, MMA surgery, and transoral robotic surgery.

The second day will be dedicated to a hands-on cadaver lab focusing on procedures including diagnostic nasopharyngoscopy, genioglossus advancement and tongue base suspension surgery, hyoid suspension techniques, MRA techniques and use, and MMA procedures including rigid fixation for OSA.

The objective of this activity is to allow Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons to feel comfortable with the many non-surgical and surgical techniques available to them for the diagnosis and management of OSA.
