ACOMS Bestows W. Harry Archer Award to Jeffrey Posnick, DMD, MD

The W. Harry Archer Award was established by the Board of Regents of the American College of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons to recognize the achievements of individual oral and maxillofacial surgeons and to memorialize Dr. Archer’s significant contributions to the specialty. Dr. Archer, a prolific writer and gifted and respected teacher, was a trailblazer of oral and maxillofacial surgery. His excellence in leadership, teaching, research, and writing place him among the eternal giants of our specialty.

Jeffrey C. Posnick, DMD, MD, FRCS(c), FACS
Dr. Posnick was presented the Archer Award and delivered the Kurt H. Thoma Memorial Lecture on Wednesday, May 3 at the joint ACOMS / CAOMS meeting in Vancouver, BC, Canada.
Educated in both dentistry (Harvard University) and medicine (Vanderbilt University), Dr. Posnick is American Board Certified in both Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Plastic Surgery. His professional appointments include Clinical Professor of Surgery and Pediatrics at Georgetown University in Washington, DC; Clinical Professor of Orthodontics at the University of Maryland School of Dentistry in Baltimore, Maryland; and Adjunct Professor of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Howard University College of Dentistry in Washington, DC.
Dr. Posnick has lectured around the world and authored more than 250 medical journal articles and book chapters. His earlier two-volume textbook entitled Craniofacial and Maxillofacial Surgery in Children and Young Adults, published by W.B. Saunders, is considered an authoritative reference. His current comprehensive two-volume textbook Orthognathic Surgery: Principles and Practice, published by Elsevier, captures the latest thinking for the evaluation and treatment of all aspects of dentofacial deformities. Dr. Posnick conducts an active clinical practice and serves as director of the Posnick Center for Facial Plastic Surgery in Chevy Chase, Maryland.
